Miracles - by C.S. Lewis
This is the article that keeps coming up in our discussion of the miracles in the gospels. It keeps coming up because it is one that I have found very helpful in understanding why the miracles are not arbitrary displays of power or even simply arbitrary displays of compassion. The way that Lewis points out the “family style” of the miracles and their unified purposes has had a tremendous impact on how I read the gospels. The whole article is good, but if you want to just get the heart of it, start midway through page 3 and go through the first half of page 6.

The Book of Numbers - Charts and Graphs
A lot of the readings in the first part of the book of Numbers have more numbers (who would have thought?) than plot, and so can be difficult to see what is going on. So… I took some of the information there and plugged it into a spreadsheet to try to visualize some of what the Israelites would have seen daily. It really helped me to look at it this way. Maybe it will be helpful for you, too. Or maybe it will inspire you to look more closely at other passages that have been a challenge to visualize from the words on the page. Anyway, enjoy!

The Angel of the LORD
In our readings so far, we keep encountering someone identified as “The Angel of the LORD” and have been wondering together how we are supposed to understand who this is. Here are some resources that should be helpful as we continue our discussions together.
